THE METHOD
PHILOSOPHY
The method is based on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali who lived approximately 2500 years ago. He is credited for having written this text of 196 aphorisms that teach about Ashtanga Yoga or the eightfold path. These are Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. In the practice of Iyengar yoga each of these steps can all be integrated and experienced in Asana .
SEQUENCE/THERAPY
Iyengar Yoga develops coherent sequences of asanas that begin from the the most basic to the most complex ones. It gradually prepares the student on a safe and comprehensive way to a more advanced and deep practice. There are also specific sequences designed to be an aid to diverse physical and emotional challenges, such as injuries, depression, headaches, etc.

PRECISION
There’s special emphasis on the correct alignment of the body in asanas.
Alignment awakens the intelligence and consciousness from the periphery to the most internal sheaths of the body. From there on, breath, mind and emotions become more present bringing the practitioner to a place of balance.

TIME
Practitioners stay for a determined amount on time on each asana depending on the level of the students, the sequence that they’re working on and the specific understanding we want to achieve. When you become a more seasoned practitioner the effort to stay in the poses is less hence you can and will want to stay longer.

props
The method uses supports, designed by B.K.S. Iyengar himself, to help the practitioner carry out actions that lead to a deeper understanding of each posture. They also help people with different conditions to experience these actions more clearly in their body.
